The most passionate and dedicated travelers like to explore wacky foods, even though they didn't see or hear about them. It might be a cool experience or disaster. Most adventurous persons like to put different foods in their mouth and taste the real cultural experience which they deserve due to traveling. I am going to discover some different types of foods can find in Sri Lanka. Sometimes you will love it or hate it. Differently, this is not everyone's cup of tea. Sit down and buckle up because this isn't your easy peasy post.
First of all, I am going to introduce my favorite fruit in the entire world. If you smell this fruit first, 90% of you never try to eat it anymore. I was one of them before 5 years. I didn't want to try durian when I got the bad smell first. One day at the university, My friend treat me to try it ignoring its smell. At the first bite, I didn't impress but I enjoy the taste which I had never before experienced in my life. After one year later, I again try that fruit and I realized I am getting addicted to it.
Now I didn't get any bad smell from durian and I love that smell soo much. I can't stop eating durian anymore. It is a seasonal fruit that only can find in from June to August. Normally, it is a little bit expensive compared to other fruits but totally worth it. Finding good ripe durian is a little bit difficult for the newcomer. The shell is hard, need to cut it to find a milder part. Somehow, it is similar to jack fruit in the texture, but not the taste. It is better to find durian from the local market rather than a supermarket. According to my own experience, Durian from the local vendor is tastier than supermarket ones. Do you ever try durian beforehand?
The next thing is totally different from the durian. It calls marmite and the smell of it is too bad for me. Even though this product is made by a Multinational company, it is very famous here. Some people eat marmite with the bread or make a drink adding water. When I was a kid, My mom gave me marmite bread and I loved it. But now I am not a big marmite fan but some people really love it. It is much similar to vegimart in Australia. You can find marmite in any shop in Sri Lanka.
