Do you ever visit those amazing Sri Lankan Islands? (The Isolated Islands in Sri Lanka)
Sri Lanka is a country of contrasts and supprises and one you quickly fell in love with. There is so much to pack in here, every couple of hours you feel like you have arrived in a new paradise. Sri Lanka is known as the pearl of the Indian Ocean. Here, There are lots of places to visit. Glimpse, Sri Lanka is an island covered by a glistening sea. Apart from the main Island, There are some small islands though out the country. If you are interested to delve to the bottom, this is for you.
1) Baththalangunduwa
Most visitors of the Baththalangunduwa either love it or hate it. It is not everyone's cup of tea. but things for certain, If you like to take rural fishery life's experience this is an ideal place for that. This is an isolated island located in Kalpitiya, Puttalam district.
It is a fishery island that has stunning beauty. If you want to take full experience, do camping and stay at least one night. But, going it is not easy.
We went there in 2019, it was our hitlist. The Baththalangunduwa island experience is seriously unique and it can't take from any other place. The place owned 7 to 10 acres of land and their boundaries always change according to the tidal.
The Island doesn't have drinking water, they need to bring them from the Kalpitiya. The entire area has a police station, a primary school (grade 1-5), and a church as public buildings. Rather than that, they have 2 or 3 simple grocery stores. All of their homes were built by dry coconut leaves and mud. Actually, they have a very simple lifestyle. The main income of the people is fishing. Add this adventure to your bucket list it is amazing.

2) Delf Island
Delf island is a remote area in Jaffna province. It is eliciting Tamil people's culture and their attitudes. It is 3rd largest island in the country. However, you need to take a boat from the Kurikattuwan Jetty and there is a boat service running by the government. so, it is free. but don't expect too many facilities. it is a simple boat ride. The first boat will start at 8.00 am. Boats also have in time of 9.00 am 1.30 pm and 4.00 pm. 1.30 pm boat is not the public one it charges Rs 80/= from one passenger. Rather than that, visitors can hire a private boat. it may cost Rs 19500/=.
In fact, this is not an island like Baththalangunduwa. it has lots of building like a school, a police station, a BOC bank, a Secretary's office and etc. Bring enough cash for the tour, because there is no ATM machine.
The Island has very dry weather. So bring enough water and other things to survive. Around 5800 peoples(1200 families) are living on this island and Lots of them can't speak Sinhala or English. Their mother language is Tamil. So communication can be difficult.
Don't underestimate how much time you need to explore the Island. There are lots to do. you can do camping on the beach. There is a navy camp very close to the shoreline. Therefore, no need to worry about safety.
The most iconic simple of the island is, they are used dry coral reefs for their walls. It is beautiful. Lots of those buildings have European Colonial history. Other than, old Buddhist temple, Delft island fort, The giant footprint, growing store, baobab tree, Queen's tower, Colonial Pigeon cot, Sarapiddi stables, Banyan tree can still see today. Apart from that, a lot of wild horses are living around the island. The population of them is close to 2000. pretty cool right?
3)Pigeon Island
Pigeon island is a beautiful place with a relaxed and laidback atmosphere. it is located in the Trincomalee district in the Eastern province. It is needed to take a boat from the Nilaweli beach to head back to the island. it will only take 15 -20 minutes(2-3Km). The journey is stunning. If you are lucky, you can see the dolphins. In addition, This tour is very famous among tourists.
Pigeon island has to be rated as the best sport for snorkeling and scuba diving in the area. this is home to one of Sri Lanka's two marine national parks. It is an It has crystal clear water, a hundred coral reefs, and three hundred amount of marine life. Instead, just keep a reasonable distance and enjoy these amazing creatures whilst giving them their own space.
4) Sinigama
This is an island located on the southern coast, close to Hikkaduwa. This whole island is denoted to "Devol god "( Devol Devi). Devol God temple is the only building on the entire island.
People go to this temple to ask for obvious justice for their prejudice or anxiety. They believed that Devol god depicts the right solutions for their problems.
5)Mannar Island
Do you like to visit end of the Sri Lanka? Mannar is the land very close to Indian Dhanushkodi City. It is only 30km. Isn't it amazing? It is an unexplored hidden gem of the country among locals as well as foreigners. The geography of the area is very different compared to other areas. Sometimes the temperature can be going up to 40 degrees. The water is not good for drinking and carries enough water for surviving. A14 bridge road is connecting the mainland and the island.
This area is home to lots of donkeys, cows, migratory birds. Besides, this is home to Sri Lankan widest tree called baobab brings by the Arab merchant century ago. Perhaps, Mannar is very famous for sugar palm trees. The fruit of them is really tasting. Don't miss to test it.
Apart from that, Lighthouse, Doric House, Madhu church, Mannar bird sanctuary Thalei Mannar pier, and Adam's bridge are other tourist hotspots of the island. From them, Adam's bridge was an amazing creation. This bridge had big historical value and connect Sri Lanka and India. It was destroyed due to natural disasters. 30km expanses of 18 sandbanks only can still be seen today.
