Only for the Beach Lovers

Most visitors of polhena beach either love it or hate it. It's not everyone's cup of tea. But one thing is for certain, It is a really good place for safe swimming. 

This place is very close to Matara town. If you are going there from Matara railway station, take a tuk-tuk, it is only 10 min. if you have come from your own vehicle parking is available, its cost only Rs 150/=. There are changing rooms and clean water also close to parking.  However, this not a secrete place, so it may be crowded on a lot of weekends and public holidays. If you love to enjoy the beach with a handful, ignore those days.

Even though we go there on a public holiday, it was crowded. but polhena beach met our expectations. For sure it is not the same as weekdays. It is a very nice place for families to chill out with their kids. the good news is, it is safe to place for swimming and especially snorkeling. You can enjoy your vacation at the beach without any worries because there are a lifeguard booth and police station very close to it.  

I should mention, vendors are on the beaches, so you can buy tubes, snorkels, masks, and rubber balls. It is better if you bring your own snorkels, but we haven't. Therefore, we rent out one tube and two snorkels from them. it was costly lower than Rs 600/=. 

Polhena beach is the perfect spot for snorkeling. The beach is very calmer with plenty of marine life, turtles, reefs with shallow water, and a nice sandy shoreline. Turtles are very famous in this area but it very rare to see them in the daytime. If you are crazy to see turtles, Come early morning.  we were there in the day time, Sadly we didn't see any turtles. But we saw beautiful fishes. It was a very peaceful time. Instead, just keep a reasonable distance and enjoy these amazing creatures whilst giving them their own space. 

There is no restaurant near to the beach, but there are some street food vendors. You can get a small snack or drink. 

We spend half of the day on there and head back to the Mirissa CoConut Tree Hill
