Our first month in Australia - what we did
Starting a new life in a new different country is bizarre and exciting. This was our first time out of the country so we were soo curious to begin our spectacular journey.
The arrival travel story to Australia
When I am writing this article, we were a passing one-month celebration living in Australia. So far, it was been an interesting and enthusiastic journey. After arriving, we had to quarantine until we got a negative PCR test. Actually, Those two days were necessary for us after tedious and hectic 22 hours of travel. We were in our Sri Lankan friend's house. so, it was not soo hard to adjust to the flow. This house was very similar to houses in our home country and we were in the middle of the summer.
Therefore, the weather was very familiar to us as well as the food. In Australia, all types of Sri Lankan veggies and spices can be found. It was so exciting news for us as Asian food lovers.
IT is time to explore the outside world...
You're off to live in a new country for the first time in your life and you could not be more excited. Cling to that excitement as tightly as you can because the next few steps of moving abroad on your own will challenge you immensely.
After getting a negative PCR test, it was time to explore the hustle and bustle of the city. Even I said City, we were 20km far away from Melbourne city. We used a public bus for the first time of the day. I need to specially mention, it was a very warm welcome tour for us because we had soo many experiences in crowed and loud bus tours in my country.
Then we went to the Greensborough railway station to get our first ever myki card(a card that needs to use public transportation within Australia). In Sri Lanka, we don't have anything like that, we buy a ticket every single time which we use public transportation.
Another this, which surprised me is the tidiness and cleanliness of the roads. Apparently, they have a very good waste disposal system throughout the country.
our next stop of the day was the Commbank to create a new bank account for us. They didn't give an ATM card to us the same day, they told us that they will send it to our home address. It was necessary for us because there barely use cash for their day-to-day life, instead of cash they use cards. It was not took soo long with the fabulous staff of the bank. People are really welcoming and smiling at us even though we have so many differences.
Then we had to take a new sim card for our phone and need a take a good data package. We went to the shop called Vodafone. It was one of the largest mobile services companies in the country. Again I need to highly mention, people were there was nice and provided great service for us. We had to carry our documents for all those services, if you are like us, don't forget to carry your all documents.
Dive into a new culture...
If your need to dive into a different culture, the market is a very good place. we walked through the different shops in the plaza to understand the way of living here. We took our lunch from the food court for the first time here. I ordered a vegetarian Singapore noodle pack, surprisingly it was good.
Get your documents in the first place...
first, three days were gone so quickly it was felt like dream. It was time to focus to crate new TAX file number and ABN number to apply for a job in Australia. Let's give me time to break down what are they. If you need to do work in Australia you must have a TAX file number or an Australian Business Number. we can apply online to get them. but we had to wait until we get our ATM card to fulfill the documentation requirements that they asked for. It took one week to get the ATM card. After applying for a TAX file number they will send it to your home address. For us, it took two weeks. Waiting for those documents' arrival was so annoying because it took more days than we anticipated. After four days of our arrival, Sesath found a job. It was soo good for our economy to build up our basement here.

When All those processes happened, I already started my studies. I had to submit some required information to the university within 7 days of arrival. It was soo a stressful month with soo many different circumstances in life. If you have these experiences in your life you will definitely know how this process affects you. At the same time, this place is seriously incredible to discover who we really are. We are excited to share our journey with you.
